My Journey To Rome
My Journey To Rome
I decided to share my impressions about the trip to Rome as my emotions still linger
The decision to go to Italy was made shortly before the journey so we didnt have much time to prepare for that. But we managed to organize the trip as quickly as possible. And as it turned out we planned everything very well.
Rome covered us in the suffocating heat as its extremely hot in Rome in August. We wanted to hire a taxi but didnt like the faces of the drivers approaching us so we decided to take a suburban train called Leonardo Express. I should say its rather comfortable and inexpensive.
We came to the Roman train station quite late but luckily our hotel was really close by. The heat didnt lessenwe had a feeling of being in a steam roomSo we were particularly glad to take a shower and to fall asleep after a long busy day.
Got up very early we rushed to the canteen. But we were extremely disappointed with the breakfastcoffee and a stale croissantFinishing the scant breakfast we took our cameras and went to the lobby to wait for our guide with who we have preliminarily exchanged emails.
I should say that we decided to entrust the organization of all the excursions to our guide so that we could completely devote ourselves to enjoying Rome. The guide sent us several variants and we chose two complete days one in Rome and the other in the Rome suburbs.
Romewe looked round the major churches and basilicas of the Italian capital. Its useless to try to describe all the magnificence of the Rome masterpieces its a kind of thing that one should see with his or her own eyesbut a person needs not only spiritual nourishment. So at 2 oclock we got very hungry. Our guide phoned somewhere and quickly drove us at a tiny restaurant where we were waited for! We paid very little and ate very much. The Italian food we were treated was so nice that I still remember its flavour! We didnt want to leave the place but the Vatican was ahead so we rushed into the car and pretty soon reached the destination. Again Im not going to describe you what we have seen. Come and take a look by yourselves!
After the Vatican we bid farewell with our guide and strolled along the streets by ourselves. Then we returned to the hotel and had a bath. A restaurant followed. We were disappointed as the dinner costed us 120 EUR what was MUCH more than we left at noon in a restaurant we went to with our guide. Besides the dinner was not that tasty.
The next day we went out of town. The sky was cloudy so tired of heat we welcomed the coolness. The rout led us through the ancient settlements up into the mountains. It is a very unusual feeling to look at the city from such a height. Rome was at our feet
And again from the lofty to the earthy. We were hungry. This time we had a very hearty dinner. We were treated to the dishes made of boar meat. Besides we were lucky that our chef was in good spirits so with a smile on his lips he betrayed us many secrets of the Italian cuisinenow I know the recipes to surprise the guests!
On the way back we saw a Bridge of Suicides the Pontifical Residence drank water from the spring looked at the functioning aqueduct which is more than 2000 years oldafter a long and busy day we didnt feel a bit tired.
At night we took a plane homewell certainly come back!!!

Allahabad Travel Guide
Allahabad Travel Guide
Allahabad is the English name of a city of Uttar Pradesh. The name is derived from the one given to the city by the Mughal Emperor Akbar in 1583. The name in Indian languages or in India generally is Ilahabad; ilah being Arabic for “a god” in this context from DiniIlahi the religion founded by Akbar and “abad” is Persian for “place of”.
The ancient name of the city is Prayaga Sanskrit for “place of sacrifice” Prayag in modern Hindi and is believed to be the spot where Brahma offered his first sacrifice after creating the world. It is one of four sites of the Kumbh Mela the others being Haridwar Ujjain and Nasik. It has a position of importance in the Hindu religion and mythology since it is situated at the confluence of the holy rivers Ganga and Yamuna and Hindu belief says that the invisible Sarasvati River joins here also. Allahabad or Prayagraj is a historian’s paradise.
History lies embedded everywhere in its fields forests and settlements. Fortyeight kilometres towards the southwest on the placid banks of the Jamuna the ruins of Kaushambi at one time capital of the Vatsa kingdom and later a thriving center of Buddhism bear silent testimony to a forgotten and bygone era. On the eastern side across the river Ganga and connected to the city by the Shastri Bridge is Jhunsi identified with the ancient city of Pratisthanpur capital of the Chandra dynasty.
About 58 kilometres northwest is the medieval site of Kara with its impressive wreckage of Jayachand’s fort. Sringverpur another ancient site discovered relatively recently has become a major attraction for tourists and antiquarians alike. Prayag is an extremely important and integral part of the Ganga Yamuna Doab and its history is inherently tied with that of the Doab region right from the inception of the town. The city was known earlier as Prayaga a name that is still commonly used. That it is an ancient town is illustrated by supposed references in the Vedas to Prayag where Brahma the Hindu Creator of the Universe is believed to have attended a sacrificial ritual.
Excavations have revealed Northern Black Polished ware objects in Prayag further corroborating the conjecture that Prayag existed as a town as early as 600 B.C. The Puranas record that Yayati left Prayag and conquered the region of Saptha Sindhu. His five sons Yadu Druhyu Puru Anu and Turvashu became the main tribes of the Rigveda. When the Aryans first settled in what they termed the Aryavarta or Madhyadesha Prayag or Kaushambi was an important part of their territory.
The Vatsa a branch of the early IndoAryans were rulers of Hastinapur near present day Delhi and they established the town of Kaushambi near present day Prayag. They shifted their capital to Kaushambi when Hastinapur was destroyed by floods. In the times of the Ramayana Prayag was made up of a few rishis’ huts at the confluence of the sacred rivers and much of the vats country was continuous jungle. Lord Rama the main protagonist in the Ramayana spent some time here at the Ashram of Sage Bharadwaj before proceeding to nearby Chitrakoot.
